A software company—that provides residential smart meter networks for enhanced consumer use and utility reporting—needed to continuously monitor all the sensors on the utility company's smart meters, run real-time analysis to determine appropriate levels of energy consumption, and trigger alerts and automatic instructions to the devices to reduce energy usage when required. Additionally, the company had to provide real-time dashboard visualization of the entire network, customized for the utility and for consumers. The software company had been deploying an SQL server for database management, but the scalability and performance limitations constrained the required capabilities of real-time data ingest, immediate analytics, and PUSH notifications for action.
The deployment of XPRESSmp enables the company to receive data from the sensors on all the smart meter devices (pool pumps, water heaters, and more) at the speed required. Super low-latency processing allows the utility to monitor usage and apply consumption/resource load queries as the smart meters submit data. And, XPRESSmp's interactive PUSH broadcast engine sends alerts or action instructions to devices only when required–eliminating the costly overhead that results when devices have to "poll" for updated instruction data. This real-time, automated transaction processing and dynamic data delivery provides the company with sub-second alert/action response time.
