Use Cases
Using XPRESSmp™ in an e-Retail Cache Environment
Challenges Addressed:
- Low latency processing
- Massive data ingest
- Massive scalability
- Complexity reduction
- Platform for upcoming enhanced dynamic data applications
- Platform for upcoming transaction personalization applications
An international e-Retailer with a large customer base needs an efficient and scalable platform to effectively handle the increasing flow of transactions through its online customer applications. It also requires a strategic platform to support the rollout of its upcoming dynamic customer transaction applications, which will require extreme low latency; the ability to enhance transactional processing with dynamic query capabilities; and provide channels for customized content delivery.
The company's existing architecture features a two-layer cache accessed by online customer applications: a MySQL in-memory layer for queries and an Oracle RAC layer to provide cache persistence and to support overflow. The deployment of XPRESSmp eliminates the need for the two-tiered cache architecture. The in-memory processing capabilities of XPRESSmp and its optional persistence capabilities enable the company to run inbound transactions at the time-critical speeds required by applications. This results in a 10 times increase in performance, and the reduction in complexity of a two-tiered cache layer—with its associated costs and resource consumption—and represents a total cost of ownership (TCO) decrease of 50 percent.
